Happy World Bee Day May 20 2021

Happy World Bee Day Day.

Bumblebees are familiar and much-loved wild insects that pollinate our crops and wild flowers, but in the last 80 years their populations have crashed. Here are FIVE simple ways you can help wild bumblebees...

1. Plant lots (and lots) of nectar rich flowers in your garden, window box or hanging baskets. Provide flowering plants from early spring to late autumn and winter and choose plants with different shaped flowers for bumblebees with different tongue lengths!

2.Grow your own fruit ad veg to feed yourself and bumblebees! Try tomatoes, runner beans, strawberries and courgettes.

3. Grow wild and let dandelions, clover, buttercups and other wild plants bloom. Create compost heaps and log piles and leave them alone, these are ideal nesting habitats for queen bees.

4. Have you got a bee hotel open for guests, but not actually sure what bees check in? Bee hotels are inexpensive to buy and are used by over 240 species of solitary bees in the UK.

5. Support our work. By purchasing any of our bee inspired pieces we donate 10% of our profits to The Bumblebee Conservation Trust Charity.
